Configuring Microsoft® Exchange Server 2007/2010 message tracking log files

To collect information about email traffic, MailDetective uses Exchange Message Tracking Log Files (log files from this point on). You need to specify their location in the program settings. In Exchange Server 2000 and Exchange Server 2003, log files could be managed in Exchange System Manager. In Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2010, log files can be managed using Exchange Management Shell (EMS) only and only on servers with Hub Transport, Edge Transport and/or MailBox roles. Starting from Exchange Server 2007, logging is enabled by default on servers with Hub Transport, Edge Transport and MailBox roles. If it was  disabled for some reason, it can be turned back on by running the following command:

Set-TransportServer SERVERNAME -MessageTrackingLogEnabled $true

By default, log files are stored in the following folder:

\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\TransportRoles\Logs\MessageTracking

This path can be changed by running this command:

Set-TransportServer SERVERNAME -MessageTrackingLogPath LOGPATH

You can view the current logging settings using this command:

Get-TransportServer SERVERNAME | fl *messagetracking*

You need to enter the path to log files used by the Exchange Server in MailDetective settings (Program Settings | Mail server | Path to log files).
